Kasganj violence: Salim accused of killing Chandan arrested

KASGANJ: As the blame game has been going on over who is responsible for the Kasganj clash, Salim Javed, one of the prime accused in the case of Chandan Gupta’s death, has been arrested by police on Wednesday, as reported by news agency ANI.

According to News 18 report, the three brothers Salim, Wasim and Nasim are the main accused in Chandan Gupta murder. Police have arrested Salim from Kasganj and is searching for Wasim and Nasim, who are still absconding.

22-year-old Chandan died during the unauthorised Tiranga Yatra motorbike rally carried out by members of the ABVP and VHP held in the Agra district of Uttar Pradesh on January 26 – India’s 60th Republic Day.

After Gupta’s death, violence escalated with several “revenge” attacks. Seven FIRs related to the communal clashes were lodged and as many as 118 people have been arrested in this case.

Kasganj, which has a population of about two lakh limp back to normalcy after peace committee meetings between the elders of both communities held.

Apart from them, Zahid Jagga, Asif Hitler has also been accused. Aslam, Asim, Nasruddin, Akram, Taufiq, Khalil, Shabab, Rahath, Salman, Mohsin, Shakib, Bablu, Nishu and Wasif are also accused.
