Kathua rape: Such ‘inhuman act’ called for ‘harsh punishment’, says Meenakshi Lekhi

NEW DELHI: BJP spokesperson and Lok Sabha MP Meenakshi Lekhi on Friday strongly condemned the Kathua rape-cum-murderas “inhuman act” and called for “harsh punishment” for the culprits.

“Such an inhuman act calls for harsh punishment against the culprits. In such a situation, law and order could take its own course and the matter should not be politicised,” said, reported Times of India.

Addressing the media at the party headquarters, Lekhi backed the thorough investigation conducted by Jammu and Kashmir police and said two J&K ministers from the party, who joined rallies in support of the accused in Kathua, were ‘misled and misguided’.

“Party has already condemned this act, 2 individuals (BJP J&K ministers) were mislead & misguided by people. Lesson to them is not to believe one side or the other and let the law take its course,” she said.

Lekhi also hit out at the Congress for highlighting the two “selectively” cases targeting the Centre.

“You see their plan, first they shout ‘minority minority’, then ‘Dalit Dalit’, and now ‘women women’ and then try to somehow fix blame of state issues on the Centre. All this while ignoring the strict action being taken by state governments,” she added.

Speaking on the Unnao rape case, Lekhi said, “The Unnao incident happened 10 months ago. The police gave the statement to the statement and did not mention the name of the legislator (Kuldeep Singh Sengar). The victim wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. She mentioned the name of the legislator and then legal proceedings began.”
