Kerala: 19 YO commits suicide to find his Class 12 certificates destroyed in water

Thiruvananthapuram: A 19-year-old student in Kerala committed suicide after finding his Twelfth class certificates destroyed in the flood-hit-state.

Kailash was heartbroken to find his certificates completely ruined due to the monsoons that has brought floods in the state causing destruction worth 20,000 crores, PTI reported.

Kailash’s house in Kozhikode was completely waterlogged due to floods forced them to move to a relief camp three days ago.

The young boy is reported to have got admission in the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) and had purchased new clothes along with saving some money for his higher studies.

But to his shock, on returning from the camp, he saw his certificates completely drenched and ruined in water.

His suicide came to light on Sunday after his parents returned from the camp to clean their house after the water receded in the area said police officer of Kunnamanagalam station said the boy’s death came to light later in the day on Sunday when his parents came to clean up the house as the water receded.

His parents are now completely devastated over their son’s suicide which comes just after the family had already lost most of their belongings to the rains in the region .

In the worst affected Chengannur in Alappuzha district, a woman was inconsolable after she lost her all important documents..

“All my belongings, my Aadhar and Ration cards and ID proofs are all gone. Only I am alive. My relatives do not even know I exist,” she mourned.

The flood-hit state has so far reported death of over 200 lives while forcing 7.14 lakh people to take shelter in relief camps in the state.
