Kerala: 35 yr old woman arrested for cultivating Cannabis(Ganja) plants

Kochi: Ernakulam North Police sleuths arrested a 35-year-old woman from her residence for growing Cannabis (Ganja) on her residence’s rooftop in Kathrikadavu following a tip-off they received.

The Police monitored the woman Mary Ann Clement’s apartment for two days after they received the tip-off informing them about her cultivation. The police sleuths raided her apartment located at Vattekadu Road and sized five Cannabis plants grown up to 6.5 inches in small flower pots on the terrace of the single storey building.

Mary used to stay with her mother. She is a tourist guide and also an insurance agent.

“Five plants at a height of 6.5 feet and six months old were seized from the residence of the accused. During interrogation the accused confessed the ganja plants were handed over to her by one of her friends,” said Ernakulam North SI Vipin Das.

When interrogated, Marry confessed to growing cannabis for six months. She, however, did not disclose the names of her associates or suppliers in the crime.

The police have registered a case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985. “She will be produced before the court on Friday,” said SI Vipin Das, News Minutes reports.
