Kerala: Activists vandalize Nirmaya Resort over encroachment

Kottayam: 20 activists belonging to the Democratic Youth Federation of India(DYFI) reportedly vandalized Niramaya Retreat resort’s three cottages including its furniture over encroachment of backwater gateway of Kumarakom.

According to the sources, the alleged encroachments at the three places of Block 11 in Pallichira belong to BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar, also the vice-chairman of the National Democratic Alliance in Kerala.

Earlier in October 2016, the Tahsildar office has sent official later informing the Kumarakom panchayath to take action against the encroachment into lake of the three blocks which were to an extent of 50 square metres, 44 square metres and 2.17 areas, but no action was taken in the case.

Speaking on it Tehsildar Geetha Kumari told the sources, “As the panchayath failed to act, we had sent a reminder on November 21 which was also not answered. The panchayath is bound to remove the encroachments.”

However, A.P. Salimon panchayath president maintained that the surveyor has not yet replied the exact measure of the land.
