Kerala: Ambulance Driver booked for negligence for mistreating patient

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Police has booked a case of ‘negligent act endangering the life of a person’ against an ambulance driver who mishandled an accident victim putting him upside-down on a stretcher for urinating inside the ambulance.

According to initial reports, the man met with an accident on 20 March near Palakkad District on National Highway at Kodakkad near Mannarkkad. He was first rushed to a hospital in Palakkad but was later taken to Thrissur in Kerala for further treatment.

The victim who was in a critical condition was cruelly positioned upside down on the inclined stretcher with one end inside the ambulance while the other hand with patient’s head on the ground by the enraged ambulance driver for urinating inside the van while arriving at Thrissur.

The video of an inhuman act of the driver with the victim when none of his family members were present with him went viral on social media which helped in identifying the driver.

Only Palakkad hospital staff accompanied the victim in van. They rushed inside the hospital to get gloves to assist the patient while the driver mistreated the critical patient pulling the stretcher out.

Though he was later seated on a wheelchair by hospital staff he could not survive and died on Saturday, DC reports.
