Kerala: Dr. Hadiya opens her own clinic in Malappuram

MALAPPURAM: Kerala woman Akhila Asokan, alias Hadiya Shafin who grabbed nationwide spotlight with a controversial ‘love-jihad‘ case has opened a clinic in her name.

Braving all odds, the 27-year-old successfully completing a course in homeopathic medicine in February 2019 and has now opened a clinic in her name- “Hadiya’s Homeopathic Clinic” at Kottakkal Road in Malappuram.

The clinic was inaugurated on Friday by the president of Othukungal Gram Panchayat. The function was attended by eminent personalities from different walks of life.

Earlier this year, in a Facebook post, her husband Shafin Jahan had also shared his wife’s photograph in doctor’s coat with a stethoscope.

Hadiya Jahan, formerly a Hindu was born Akhila Ashokan was in the centre of a storm after she converted to Islam from Hinduism and married Shafin Jahan, a Muslim man, in December 2016.

Following this, her father approached the Kerala High Court, alleging that she had been forcibly converted. The High Court annulled the marriage in May 2017 and ordered her to be sent back to her parents’ home.

Setting aside a Kerala HC judgement, Supreme Court in March 8, 2018, ruled that the Hadiya‘s marriage with Shafin Jahan was valid and allowed her to live with her husband. The Apex Court had directed Hadiya to rejoin the Salem college to continue her house surgeon internship for completing the degree course.
