Kerala govt announces Rs 50 lakh to family of slain EK Niranjan

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Government on Wednesday announced a solatium of Rs 50 lakh to the family of Lieutenant Colonel EK Niranjan, who was killed while defusing a grenade at the scene of the terror attack at the Pathankot IAF base.

It also offered a job for Dr Radhika, wife of Niranjan, in government service. A decision in this regard was taken at the state cabinet meeting held here, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said. Besides this, entire educational expenses of the slain soldier’s daughter would be borne by the government, he added.

It was also decided to name after Niranjan the government ITI coming up at Elambulassery, the home village of the brave solider. Chandy said a stadium coming up at the Palakkad Medical College would also be named after Niranjan. The 32-year-old bomb expert with the National Security Guard was killed on Sunday last.
