Kerala professor makes derogatory remarks against Muslim girl students, triggers protest

Kozhikode: Protests triggered after a professor from Kerala State made derogatory remarks against Muslim girl students. He also made obscene remarks about girls’ private parts.

According to the report published in The News Minute, Jauhar Munnavir of Farook Training College in Kozhikode claimed that Muslim girls are not wearing Hijab properly and termed their dress as “Un-Islamic”. He also said that they deliberately expose their chests.

He continued making obscene remarks against girls and said that they expose their chest like slices of melon on display, NDTV reported.

Commenting on girls wearing leggings, he said that they hold their Hijab little higher to show the leggings. He further said that girls don’t wear “Muftah” anymore. He termed such dressing as “Un-Islamic”.

Talking about Jauhar’s remarks, CA Jawahar, Principal of Farook Training College said that the speech was made 3 months ago. He also said that as the speech was not on the campus, the college has no responsibility.

Protests started after the video of his speech went viral on the internet. Under the banner of SFI, many girl students belonging to Farook College took out ‘watermelon march’. They demanded action against Jauhar. KSU and ABVP activists also registered their protests, TOI reported
