“Who knows, if they try and kill us too?” says Afrazul’s family

Malda: Afrazul’s family from West Bengal want the case to be shifted out Rajasthan due to fear of attack on them if they travelled into the state (Rajasthan).

The legal cell of Trinamool Congress visited the house of Afrazul’s house in Malda on Sunday. With the help of legal cell of TMC, Gul Bahar Bibi, Afrazul’s wife will file a plea in Calcutta High Court or Supreme Court seeking transfer of case.

Asit Basu, Trinamool Congress core committee member and former chairman of the West Bengal Bar Council, said that “We are here on the instructions of Mamata Banerjee. Family members of Afrazul fear that their lives will be in danger if they go to Rajasthan. They do not want the case to continue in Rajasthan. We have held discussions with the family members.
We will help them file an appeal in Calcutta High Court over the issue. If needed, we will also help them file a plea in the Supreme Court.”

Basu also said that “We will also lodge a complaint with the West Bengal Human Rights Commission.”

The family feared attacks if they visit Rajasthan and they are also financially incapable of filing a case in Supreme Court or Calcutta High Court.

Md Room Khan, one of Afrazul’s brothers who returned home out of fear said that “Who knows, if they try and kill us too?”

Meanwhile, various Muslim organisations took out rallies in Saiyadpur. Congress party leaders also visited the family.
