KTR launches 176 Swatch Autos; Gives Rs 10 lakh to each of manhole victims

Expressing concern over the deaths of some workers in a manhole in the city recently that created furore, Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao today stated that manholes will be cleaned up by using machines and not by pressing the GHMC workers. He attributed the incident to the negligence of contractors and vowed to give a job to the kin of deceased besides Rs 10 lakh compensation each.

It is unfortunate that the incident took place which must be the last one and steps are taken to prevent the recurrence, he said. KTR interacted with the victims on the occasion and assured them to provide glouses, shoes and masks and all help from the government.  He vowed that Hyderabad will become an ideal place by using technology driven Swatch Vehicles to keep the twin cities clean and asked the officials and workers to work in tandem. “In addition to the previous 1,824 autos distributed, we have today launched 176 new high-end Technology Swatch Autos to clear the garbage on the Necklace Road, he said. The Minister drove a Swatch Auto that clears the road and then flagged off 176 swatch autos after distributing them to the beneficiaries.

Speaking on the occasion, KTR reiterated that a complete cleansing drive will be taken up to make Hyderabad a clean city and replace the old vehicles with new ones in a phased manner. He also felicitated best workers of the GHMC and gave away a reward of Rs 5000 each. Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali, Cinematography Minister T Srinivas Yadav, MLA Ch Ramachandra Reddy, GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy and others were present. (NSS)
