KTR writes to Sushma on deportation of students by US

Stating that the recent spate of deportation of Indian students by the US Government distressed the students and their families, IT Minister K Tarakarama Rao has urged the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to initiate a dialogue with the US officials concerned and solve the problem at the earliest.

In a letter to the External Affairs Minister, the IT Minister stated that in the last two months, several students from Telagnana State faced deportation despite having valid visas issued by the US Consulate. Traditionally, the Hyderabad city has a maximum share in sending students and skilled workforce to the United States, he added. He also pointed out that many of these students in India take loans to fund their education program in the US Universities and when the students are summarily deported back to India their families pass through deep emotional and financial anguish.

“There seems to be lack of clarity on why the US authorities were resorting to highhanded methods to deport these hapless students. There have also been media reports stating that the students where maltreated by the US authorities. Therefore, I request you to initiate a dialogue with the US Government Heads concerned and impress upon them the distress caused to Indian citizens because of these unwarranted deportations”, he added.
