Kumaraswamy prepares for oath, groups demand Deputy CM’s post for a Muslim

BENGALURU: As Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy is expected to be sworn-in as chief minister of Karnataka state on Wednesday, a group of Muslim organisations on Tuesday demand its representative should bag the Deputy Chief Minister’s post in the new government in Karnataka.

Addressing the media, the members from the Muslim community demanded that either seven-time Congress MLA Roshan Baig or some other leader from community be made the deputy chief minister in the new government in Karnataka.

Speaking to News18, a Muslim MLC told that if one looks at the 78 seats from where Congress won, close to 50 were won majorly because of Muslims who voted en masse for the Congress.

“If the Congress fails to recognise and reward our support, the Muslims should teach the Congress a lesson as we have made enough sacrifices for the party. We demand a Muslim deputy CM in Karnataka,” the MLC said.

Before his swearing-in ceremony, Kumaraswamy on Monday met United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi in the national capital.
