Kurella farmer’s suicide: Chada demands probe

CPI State secretary Chada Venkat Reddy today demanded that the State government order an inquiry into the suicide death of Venkatamma, wife of former sarpanch Balreddy in Kurella village under Koheda mandal of Siddipet district.

The CPI leader today consoled Bal Reddy at the NIMS Hospital where he was undergoing treatment. Chada said Bal Reddy asked the MRO to correct the land records in survey number 550. But the MRO said he would send the record for consideration of RDO. When Bal Reddy approached the RDO and asked about his problem, the latter said it was not possible to correct the record.

Upset with the RDO’s reply, Bal Reddy made suicide attempt in front of the RDO office some 15 days ago. Bal Reddy and his wife Venkatamma were undergoing treatment at the NIMS after the incident. But today Venkatamma died in the hospital.

According to doctors, the condition of Bal Reddy was also serious and needed effective treatment. Chada alleged that Bal Reddy couple made suicide attempt following criminal behaviour of the Revenue officials. Chada demanded that the government order an inquiry with the District Collector about the harassment of farmers by the Revenue officials.

Chada demanded that the State government extend Rs 10 lakh ex gratia and bear the medical expenditure for the last 15 days for the treatment. AIKS State general secretary Pashya Padma, CPI leader Mallepally Adhi Reddy, NFIW State general secretary Srujana, AISF State secretary Shivarama Krishna, Girijana Samakhya State secretary Anjaiah Naik were also present.
