Anantnag: Curfew was lifted on Tuesday from most parts of Kashmir, except South Kashmir, after 17 days of unrest in the Valley in which 48 people were killed in clashes following killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani.
“There will be no restrictions in any part of district Srinagar on 26 July 2016,” said Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone, district magistrate, Srinagar.
A police official however said that the restrictions will continue in South Kashmir.
Curfew was imposed across Kashmir on July 9, a day after killing of Wani in an encounter in south Kashmir’s Kokernag area, as a precautionary measure.
However, violent clashes between protestors and security forces saw 48 people, including two policemen killed. Over 2,000 civilians were also wounded in the ensuing violence.
Mobile telephony, mobile internet services and train services remained suspended for 18th day while schools, colleges and other educational institutions also remained closed due to a strike called by the separatist groups.
Normal vehicular movement is expected later in the day as separatists have asked people to resume work after 2 pm.
However, the separatists called for three days of shutdown from Wednesday to July 29. They have issued a call to residents to march towards south Kashmir’s Kulgam district and Srinagar’s Jamia Masjid on Wednesday and Friday respectively.
