Laxman demands Rs 1,000 cr budget for welfare of disabled

Alleging that the State government failed to solve the problems being faced by disabled persons, Telangana State BJP president Dr K Laxman today demanded that the government allocate Rs 1,000 crore in the budget for their welfare.

The BJP organized a padayatra from Ambedkar statue at Tankbund to the Assembly. But the police personnel stopped it before the padayatra reached the Assembly. Hundreds of disabled persons participated in the padayatra led by State BJP chief.

Talking to the media, Laxman said the Union government was providing 90 per cent funds for welfare of disabled persons. It was unfortunate that the State government was not releasing its share of 10 per cent for the same, he alleged. He said there were 20 lakh disabled persons in the State and eagerly waiting for employment.

Besides Laxman, BJP MLAs G Kishan Reddy, Chintala Ramachandra Reddy, NVSS Prabhakar, Raja Singh, BJP State secretary Paparao, Disabled association leaders Srisailam, BJP official spokesperson N V Subash, State media committee convenor V Sudhakar Sharma and others participated in the padayatra. (NSS
