At least cricketer- turned politician Gambhir is not Pakistan sympathizer like Sidhu: BJP Minister

Taking an indirect dig at Congress Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, Union Minister Arun Jaitley on Friday said that now Sidhu has to get over his past relations as a cricketer and stop being a sympathizer of Pakistan.

“We have experience that one past cricketer suddenly becoming Pakistan sympathiser. At least, Gambhir doesn’t have such a past,” Arun Jaitley said taking an indirect dig at Sidhu.

He was speaking at a press conference announcing the former cricketer Gautam Gambhir joining saffron party.

“I am joining this party (BJP) after getting influenced by PM Narendra Modi’s vision. I am honoured to get the opportunity to join this platform,” Gautam Gambhir said during the press conference.

After the recent Pulwama tragedy, Congress minister Sidhu has been criticized for his statements in support of peaceful dialogue with neighboring nation Pakistan instead of action post-Pulwama attack.

He received harsh backslash for supporting peaceful dialogue to end tensions between the two nations.

In a letter, titled “We have a choice”, Navjot Sidhu said the belief that only in thinking the worst “they can protect and defend” is a “mirage”.

“Deceit possesses our land in [the] guise of fighting a foreign enemy,” Sidhu had commented back then.
