LKG, UKG being Introduced in Govt Schools, Anganwadis: Kadiam

Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari has informed that the state government was introducing LKG and UKG in government schools and Anganvadi centres’ services to be used for pre-primary education.

Giving reply to the questions raised by the members K Janardhan Reddy, Pula Ravinder in the Legislative Council on Sunday, Kadiam said that the state government was contemplating to run the pre-primary classes by setting up Anganvadi centres at government schools surroundings. The government was already running 11,800 Anganvadi centres in government schools, he informed and said that the state government was contemplating to introduce LKG and UKG classes where the Anganvadi centres were run in government schools.

The government was also initiating steps to increase the student enrolment in government schools. The student enrolment during 2015-16 in government schools was 27,92,000, in 2016-17 the number increased to 28,33,000 and in 2017-18 it was 27,61,000 in government schools. He said that earlier the students’ enrolment figures were bogus, but bogus enrolment was curbed due to linkage of Aadhaar cards. The students’ enrolment decreased as there was no English medium in government schools in the past but increased the students’ enrolment due to the introduction of English medium and pre-primary education through Anganvadi centres, he explained.
