Lok Sabha polls: NT Rama Rao’s daughter takes on former CBI joint director in Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam: BJP candidate from Visakhapatnam Daggubati Purandeswari, also the daughter of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) founder N T Rama Rao, is pitted against former CBI joint director V V Lakshminarayana and other candidates.

Purandeswari was announced as the BJP candidate when the party released its first list on March 21. The sitting MP Hari Babu has reportedly decided not to contest the Lok Sabha election.

V V Lakshminarayana is in the fray on the ticket of Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena Party. He was a key figure in investigating disproportionate assets and other cases of corruption against YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Purandeswari was earlier elected from Visakhapatnam as an MP on the Congress ticket in 2009.

TDP has named MV Sri Bharat, son-in-law of actor-politician N Balakrishna as its candidate. Purandeswari is Balakrishna’s sister.

YSRCP has fielded a businessman, M V V Satyanarayana, for the Lok Sabha seat.

Andhra Pradesh has 175 Assembly seats and 25 Parliament seats at stake. The state will go for polls on April 11.
