Looking into deletion of voters: CEO

Hyderabad: Chief Electoral Officer, Rajath Kumar today stated that they are setting right the electoral rolls in the wake of complaints about deletion of eligible names and existence of the names of those who are non-extent and duplicate or repeated names or with false name or photograph.

Interacting with press persons at Secretariat here Rajath Kumar maintained that the EC has instructed them to fix the problems pertaining to the voter list to have genuine voters to exercise their franchise. Rajath Kumar further said that the process for fixing the issues regard to large scale deletion of voters is going on and will rectify them at the earliest.

“We are using latest technologies and online usage will prove handy to check duplicacy or repeating of names and wrong photographs, or mismatch of the name and photographs or any others that are irrelevant he said. We will complete the process followed by a directive from EC”.

The CEO expressed wonder as to how it was possible to remove about 22 lakh names of the voters from the list of electoral rolls. During 2014 general elections, there were about 2.83 crore voters were there in the list, now it has come down to 2.61 crore which is being checked for veracity, he said, adding that special summary revision of electoral rolls is also going on at booth level in districts.

“We have adequate number of booth level officers in all the polling stations and the EC is monitoring it regularly”, he said. “Though the EC has received the complaints of deletion of about 70 lakhs of voters from the electoral rolls we are checking for exact figures and ensure that all the genuine and eligible voters get their chance to vote”, he added. Deletion and inclusion will be done as per EC procedure and the Collectors were instructed to make enrolment at polling booths also.
