NEW DELHI: Ministry of Home Affairs alerts the State Chief Secretaries and DsGP regarding possibility of eruption of violence in different parts of the country in connection with the counting of votes on Thursday. The Home ministry asks States and union territories to maintain law and order, peace & public tranquility, reported The ANI news agency.

The unusual advisory from Centre comes in the wake of a sharp campaign by opposition leaders.

Two days ahead of the Lok Sabha election results, leaders of around 20 opposition parties met here on Tuesday amid their concerns over the electronic voting machines (EVM) and use of VVPATs following a string of videos that show the electronic voting machines being transported from one place to another.

Former President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday expressed concern over reports of alleged tampering of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and said the onus of ensuring institutional integrity lay with the Election Commission of India (ECI).
