Hyderabad: India may face another round of difficult situation with China as Beijing perceives New Delhi as a hurdle in its grandiose plan to become world super power, Lt Gen (Rtd) Zameer Uddin Shah, former Vice-Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, said on Tuesday.
Speaking with the students of Mass Communication and Journalism and the candidates preparing for elite services at Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Lt Gen Shah said, “Doklam standoff was not the last of the deliberately created tensions between India and China. China would try to drag India again into a situation of difficult choices. It pulled back from standoff because it had to save the BRICKS summit,” he said.
Shah said that following the Doklam standoff that lasted for over two months the government of India has realised the perils of lowering its guard on its border with China. He ruled out large scale war with Pakistan owing to nuclear parity between the two countries. However, the border skirmishes between the two could sometime become intense, he added.
Lt Gen Shah, former deputy chief of the army, is the second of the three sons born to Aley Mohammad Shah in 1948. The eldest son of Aley Mohammad Shah is Zaheer Uddin Shah who chose to become an engineer and the third one, Naseer Uddin Shah, a film personality. “Naseer ran away from home to pursue his passion in theatre and acting,” he said.
Lt Gen Shah said that he wanted a life of adventure that is the reason he wrote the Defence Academy examination and joined army at the age of 19 years and six months. He advised students to sharpen their focus on studies and try to excel in areas where their passion lies.
Prof Amir Ullah Khan, Director of Civil Services Coaching Academy, welcomed Zameer Shah and his wife Sabiha Simi Shah. Prof Ehtesham Ahmad Khan, Dean School of Mass Communication and Journalism, proposed a vote of thank.
