Now From August 1, cinema multiplexes in the state of Maharashtra the won’t be allowed to charge more than the maximum retail price for the food or a glass of cola, and nor they can stop you from bringing in food from outside.
The announcement was made by the Minister of State for Food and civil supplies, Ravindra Chavan in response to a question raised by the MLC of NCP Dhananjay Munde had said. The MLC had brought out the government’s attention to the prices levied by Multiplexes for products bought within the establishments due to their monopoly.
The government will take strict action against those multiplexes who do not implement this, State Food Minister Ravindra Chavan said. The government is working on a resolution that is expected to come out in six weeks, he said.
This decision from the Minister comes just two weeks after a shocking incident in Pune in which members of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) were caught on camera resorting to violence, intimidation, and assault against an employee of a multiplex over the high prices of food items there. Following that, the assaulter justified his action by citing the assaulted staff-member’s tone of voice.
The Minister also said that there was no such rule in which multiplexes can charge huge amounts of money from the people and said that there cannot be two different prices for the same product.
