New Delhi: Social media can sometimes land you and your loved ones in troubles but most often can also end in lethal consequences. Similar is the case of Indian Army major who turned into a murderer.
Major Nikhil Rai Handa, who is now arrested by the police for murdering Shailja Dwivedi, the wife of another major in the Indian Army, didn’t have many friends in the military, TOI reported.
But the major was quite active on Facebook and that was how he came into contact with Shailja, in 2015.
Major saw Shailaja’s picture on one of the common friend’s timeline and ever since then Major wanted to persuade her.
He even befriended Shailaja’s Husband Major Amit Dwivedi so that he could get close to the family.
Since the two majors were friends now, Handa frequently visited Dwidedi’s residence in Nagaland.
Everything was fine between the two Majors until Dwivedi saw a video call on Handa’s phone to his wife. Though furious, Dwidedi asked Handa to never stop by their residence again said the Police.
The Police said Major Handa’s performance over the last two years was largely devoted to persuading Shailaja rather than performing his duties.
Handa has also staged fake fights with his wife to convince Shailaja that he is experiencing troubled marriage.
“He told us he had troubles in his married life as well and was pushed to the level where he could not think of any other option but to eliminate Shailja,” a Delhi police source claimed.
Handa’s wife, however, told that she had doubted her husband many times but when she confronted him he always convinced her otherwise. She said: “There was nothing wrong between the two of us and we had a happy family.”
Major Handa’s father is an ex-merchant navy officer and a cousin serves in the Army as an officer. Handa is believed to be close to his brother Rajat.
Handa confined in Rajat after murdering Shilaja the Police said.
“ He told him he had stabbed Shailja and was in dire need of money for a couple of days,” adding he would return the money within a week, the police said.
But Handa was arrested within 24 hours of murdering Shailja the police added.
