Hyderabad: The investigations of Makkah Masjid Bomb Blast Case took a new turn when main accused of Malegaon Bomb Blast Case of 2008, Lt. Colonel S.K. Purohit turned back from his earlier confession while recording his statement in Nampally Criminal Court.

It may be mentioned that Purohit is the witness number 106 of Makkah Masjid Bomb Blast Case. He was summoned by IV Addl. Metropolitan Sessions Judge and Special Judge for NIA.

It may be recalled that a bomb blast took place at Makkah Masjid on 18th May 2007. CBI was entrusted with the task of investigating the case which had recorded his confession statement earlier. According to the charge sheet submitted by CBI, Purohit had met Swami Aseemanand and mentioned about the slain accused Sunil Joshi. In that meeting, Swami Aseemanand had told Purohit that Sunil Joshi is his “man”.

During interrogation, Purohit told that he served in Counter Intelligence Dept. of Indian Army and had met many persons while he was in service. He said that he did not meet Makkah Masjid Bomb Blast Case accused, Swami Aseemanand. He also said that he did not record any statement with any investigating agency. He informed the court that police had arrested him without conducting any military investigation as a result of which, he spent 9 years in jail.

Purohit further informed that Supreme Court had pointed out that his arrest without any investigation is wrong.

It may be noted that Purohit was released on bail in August 2017. It may be recalled that NIA had arrested Devender Gupta, Lokesh Sharma, Swami Aseemanand, Bharat Mohanlal Rateshwar and Rajinder Chowdhary and submitted charge sheets against them. The kingpins of the bomb blast case, Ram Sundarkal Kangra and Sandeep Dange are still absconding.
