Man beaten for entering lane, dies

New Delhi: A 39-year-old man, who was beaten up by a group of men in east Delhi’s Madhu Vihar for entering their lane, has succumbed to injuries, the police said today.

Kanti Prasad (39), who was injured in the December 15 incident, died yesterday during treatment, they said.

Prasad along with his 17-year-old son and friends Gautam (34) and Jitender (38) went to his elder brother’s house located in a lane near the Mandawli police station on the day of the incident.

He was having a tiff with his brother over a family issue and had gone to sort it out.

Prasad had entered the house while his friends waited down stairs. However, they were asked to meet one Mehboob alias Dhauwaa, they said.

They felt suspicious and while Jitender went, Gautam stayed back and called Prasad.

The deceased, his son, Gautam went to the corner of the lane where they found Jitender being beaten up by a group of three-four men, the police said.

They also attacked Prasad, his son and Gautam. The group of men thrashed the trio and even threw chairs at them.

The accused threatened to kill them, saying, “you are coming to our lane to create nuisance and we will not spare you”, the police said.

Jitender was shot at when he was trying to flee from there. He suffered a bullet wound in his hand. The police were informed and one of the accused Mehboob was arrested.

Prasad and the others were admitted to a hospital. They were discharged after treatment.

However, Prasad was admitted again on December 17 with internal injuries.

He succumbed died yesterday.

Police said that they have identified the other accused who are at large.
