Man held for killing wife

Agra: A shoemaker has been arrested here on charge of killing his wife, police said on Thursday.

Accused Haresh was an alcoholic and beat his wife Urmila almost daily in the past, his neighbours said. The couple has four children, including three daughters who are married.

The neighbours became suspicious when Haresh and his brother went to the Yamuna riverbank for some religious ritual without his wife, who was not seen in their house for the past 24 hours.

They later found Urmila’s blood-stained body wrapped in a quilt lying in a corner in their house and reported the crime to police. It was not immediately known when the murder took place.
