Man held for stealing police gypsy in Delhi

New Delhi: A 32-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly stealing a police vehicle from south Delhi’s Kotla Mubarakpur area, police said today.

On August 6, the gypsy was stolen from South Extension 1 where the driver had parked it outside his house, the police said.

The Quick Response Vehicle (QRT), attached to the Tughlak Road police station, was recovered on August 14, they said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (southeast) Romil Baaniya said that the patrolling staff found the stolen vehicle parked in southeast Delhi’s Govindpuri on August 14.

Ajay, a resident of Tughlaq Lane shanties, was arrested after police scanned CCTV footage and questioned locals.

He told the police that while stealing the vehicle, he did not realise that it belonged to the police since it was quite dark.

He was scared after realising that he had stolen a police gypsy and parked it at a secluded spot and did not try to sell it off, the police added.
