‘Manikya Malaraya Poovi”: FIR against viral song for hurting Muslim sentiments

HYDERABAD: A group of Muslim youth from Hyderabad on Tuesday night filed a complaint at Falaknuma Police Station against the makers of the song ‘Manikya Malaraya Poovi’ from ‘Oru Adaar Love’ for allegedly hurting sentiments of Muslims.

A case under section 295A Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings or any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) has been registered after 20-year-old Muqueet Khan from Farooq Nagar approached police and lodged a complaint.

He alleged that he had nothing against the movie, the song or the actor itself but the song’s lyrics use the name of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and his wife Bibi Khadeeza (RA) in the background score while teenager boy and girl are seen romancing.

According to Falaknuma Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) Syed Faiyaz, “The youth said the song’s lyrics allegedly hurt the sentiments of Muslims.

Complainant Muqueet told , “”After listening to the song, I checked the translation, it was about Prophet Mohammad (PBUH). A girl and boy are romancing but linking background with religious sentiments.”

“I will not take back my complaint. I have checked on Youtube and then filed my complaint,” he added.

Clarifying the lyrics of the song, the director of the film ‘Omar Lulu’ said it is not meant to hurt anybody’s sentiments.

“There is nothing against Islam or Muslims. It is a very old love song sung by all communities,” he said.

The first song of ‘Oru Adaar Love’ became viral on social media within few hours of its release because of Malayalam actor Priya Prakash Varrier’s cute articulations and wink.
