MANUU to ensure students regional diversity

Hyderabad: Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) decided to offer 10% weightage in the entrance test marks to ‘home state’ candidates in B.Ed., M.Ed. & Diploma in Engineering programs offered at various campuses of the University to a maximum of 30% of approved intake.

According to a notification released by the Registrar, the Academic Council (AC) of the University has approved the weightage of 10% for entrance test marks for the programs in all College of Teacher Education (CTEs) and Department of Education & Training; and at all MANUU – Polytechnics. The entrance test for these programs was held on 26th and 27th May, 2018.

The Academic Council in its meeting held on 4th June took note of the under-representation of native students in various programmes being run by the University in its Main Campus and the Satellite Campuses. The AC observed that these eventually led to skewed regional equity of students.

The Academic Council considered the recommendations of the Committee, constituted by the Vice-Chancellor to examine the measures for enhancing local representation of students in its Constituent Colleges/Institutions. The Committee was of the view that there should be necessary provisions for preferential treatment for native students in admissions to maintain the equity and diversity.

This relaxation is applicable to students who have passed the qualifying examination from any Institution/University or State Board or NIOS’s Study Centre located in a particular state where the MANUU Institution is located subject to other eligibility conditions.
