Marriage fraud, a woman was arrested

A 42-year-old woman from Mumbai who allegedly cheated a colonel’s family was arrested by the Rachakonda cyber crime police on Tuesday and remanded to judicial custody.

A retired Army Colonel, Bhupinder Singh, had created his son’s profile for marriage on Defence Matrimony site. After some days, he received a call from Riddhima Kalsy claiming a Neurosurgeon from Mumbai and expressed her interest, said Bhupinder in his complaint to the Rachaknoda Cyber-Crime police.

Dilpreeth Singh, colonel’s son, and the woman continued being in contact for some days. Later, one day the woman asked Dilpreeth to give 3.36 lakh toward the expenses of her grandfather’s treatment, as she has Non-Resident External and Non-Resident Ordinary accounts and could not withdraw money.

Believing her, Dilpreeth transferred Rs 3.36 lakh to her friend’s bank account. After receiving money, the woman avoided him.
The woman was traced by the Rachakonda police at Vashi area in Navi Mumbai and identified as Reema Sandhu, a voice and accent trainer at a BPO. In order to earn easy money, Reema indulges in the fraud.

She was produced before a court at Mumbai and brought to the city on transit warrant and remanded to judicial custody, said the police.
