Marriages of girls with Arabs: Hyderabad HC seeks reply from AP, TS governments

Hyderabad: Judge of the Hyderabad High Court expressing displeasure at the governments, sought the reply from Central and State governments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh over the marriages of Muslim girls with Arabs.

According to the news published in DC, State and Central governments should enact laws to check the illegal activities of Qazis, Justice S.V. Bhatt said while hearing a petition filed by Shaik Chand Basha of Prakasam district. In the petition, he challenged the appointments of certain Qazis in the district.

The judge also pointed out that the governments are not taking into consideration the suggestions given by a division bench of the High Court in 2006.

Mr. Muqeeth Qureshi, senior advocate of Hyderabad High Court termed the marriages of Muslim girls with aged Arab Sheiks as a scandal. He further said that in 2006, the court ruled that Muslims can choose their Qazi.
