Delhi police has remanded Maulana Syed Anzar Shah Qasmi, arrested for suspected links with terror group al Qaeda, into police custody till January 20, after producing him in special court of Delhi. On the direction of President Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind Maulana Syed Arshad Madani, Secretary Jamiat Ulema Maharashtra Legal Aid Committee Gulzar Azmi has requested M S Khan, a Delhi based advocate, to follow up the case of Maulana Anzar Shah.
It must be noted that earlier Maulana Abdur Rahman of Darul Uloom Deoband was arrested for alleged links with banned Al Qaeda, and is under the custody of Delhi police. This is the 3rd arrest in this connection during 3 weeks period.
Secretary Legal Aid Committee Gulzar Azmi informed that defence lawyers are keeping in touch with accused in the police lockups.
Mufti Ghyasuddin Rahmani Qasmi President Jamiat Ulama-e-Telangana & AP claimed that such frequent arrests are creating restlessness among Muslims.
