Maulana Salman Nadwi advocates for a compromise; says it is permissible in Islam to shift a masjid

Advocating Shri Shri Ravi Shankar’s mediation in Babri Masjid issue, Maulana Salman Nadwi says it was a positive and historical move, but some members of Personal Law Board made it a controversial issue. He claimed that the Personal Law Board’s strategy was neither successful regarding talaq issue nor regarding Masjid.

Maulana says Muslims in the country are virtually living a life like that of Makki period but are not fulfilling the requirements of the same. We should avoid conflict and clash. We should talk to hardcore elements keeping in view Sulah Hudaibiya. Instead of that such method is being adopted which is causing damage to the community religiously as well as socially.

Maulana Nadwi says there are examples that masjids were shifted from some places for various reasons. One such example is the action of Hazrat Umar (RAA) when he shifted a masjid of Kufa to another place and established a market of dates on the place of the masjid.

Maulana says in 1949, idols were places in Babri Masjid. Prayer has not been offered in the masjid for nearly 69 years. The dangerous movement to construct a temple on the disputed site began in 1990 and continues till date. The movement became the cause for Babri Masjid demolition in 1992 and subsequent martyrdom of thousands of Muslims. The issue has become a tumour for the country. Now the wait for Supreme Court verdict is nothing but a cold comfort; which has no Islamic base.

The only way of resolving the problem is to talk about shifting the masjid from there and make a deal for the protection of all masajid and religious centres. The defeat will be our victory in disguise, says Maulana Nadwi.
