Media persons should build credibility to connect with people: Veteran scribe Jacob

Hyderabad: Internationally known Indian media person Mr Satish Jacob asked aspiring journalists to incorporate confidence, credibility and knowledge in their work to serve the society, especially in the field of journalism, better. During his guest lecture on “Journalism is the heart and soul of the Society” the veteran newsman who has worked with BBC for decades highlighted the current media trends in India especially in electronic media in different spheres of life. The lecture was organised by the department of mass communication and journalism, Maulana Azad National Urdu University.

Dr M.A. Sikandar, Registrar, MANUU presided over the lecture. Speaking about New Media practices Mr Jacob said that the digital and social media will act as a new wave of communication for young journalists and help India reform. He expressed concern on sensationalizing news by some media houses for increasing TRP and said that the people have to raise their voice against it. He condemned the new horrific trend of mob lynching in the name of food habits and religion.

Mr Jacob during a tenure spanning over four decades has covered the wars in the Gulf, the Middle East and Nigeria, the collapse of Janata government and the assassination of Indira Gandhi, among other major events.

His talk was followed by an interactive session with the students.
