Meerut Video: Police constables suspended for thrashing Hindu girl

Meerut: After disturbing videos of a Hindu girl being beaten by woman constable inside police jeep for befriending a Muslim guy went viral on the internet, the woman constable claims she was only following orders from her higher authorities.

The girl seen in the video is a nursing college student and the Muslim guy was none other than her own classmate who was targeted because of his religion, Indian Express reported.

The principal of the college and girl’s family, both have come out strongly in her support after the incident.

The 29-second viral video, which shows constable Priyanka Singh beating the girl inside a police jeep with three other colleagues after rescuing her from a mob has become controversial news where the protectors have turned into punishers.

The girl was with her Muslim friend aged around 22 years when the mob raided his apartment and started thrashing them. Meanwhile, when the Police arrived at the scene they were no different from the mob and started thrashing the girl after taking her away from the mob.

“I simply followed my senior’s orders and now I am paying for it. It was the first time I had gone on a UP 100 call and sat in that jeep. I had no earlier experience… It’s just my bad luck,” claims Priyanka adding that she belongs to the “oppressed SC community” and “cannot oppress another person”.

Following the incident, Priyanka and the three others involved in the incident were suspended since the video clip also has a male voice making a derogatory reference to Muslims and asking the woman, “Sharam nahin aati (Aren’t you ashamed)?”

Sainserpal, the driver who allegedly shot the video, is “unwell” and not in a position to speak, according to his brother.
While Priyanka’s claims she was not at fault, the student who is the second of three siblings said “She can say whatever she wants to, the truth is out for everyone to see. I just want to get back to my studies.”

At her home, in Hapur tehsil, the student’s mother said: “On most Sundays, when my daughter would get leave, she would come home. She cannot do anything wrong. The people who found her should have called us. Why did they have to beat the two of them?” she asks. Her husband is a farmer who also owns a general store in the village.
