Membership to fishermen for benefit: Talasani

To revive rural economy and to give a push to the community-based professions in villages, the State government launched several schemes, Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav today said.

He asked the community and society leaders to take initiative to provide membership to all those involved in the profession and business without fail and benefit in future through lakes. The minister directed the officials to make coordinated efforts to implement a plan to increase fish production and provide benefit to the fishermen, including Gangaputras, Mudiraj people and others.

During a meeting with a delegation of fishermen societies and others at Secretariat here on Wednesday the minister said that adequate funds will be spent for encouraging fishermen community by offering subsidies on vehicles. The Government has allotted Rs 1000 cr to implement an integrated fishermen development scheme to benefit the people involved in fishing.

“This time we are planning to drop about 75 cr of fish seed in to the lakes, water bodies and ponds across the state while 51 cr fish seeds dropped during the last year. We plan to drop the fish seed and ensure that those involved in the profession get two-wheelers, autos and nets on subsidies”, he said.

The Minister also vowed to avoid middlemen problem and provide marketing facility by constructing wholesale and retail markets in districts and villages. The previous governments ignored the plight of the fishermen who are now able to get back to the old profession he noted. He also said that lakes and ponds are abundant with waters with Mission Kakatiya of lakes revival and credit goes to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. The KCR Government is constructing projects with priority and ensure water in all rivers, lakes, tanks and reservoirs he added. (NSS)
