MIM’s assets are worth more than Rs. 5,000 Cr: Akbar Owaisi

Hyderabad: MIM floor leader in Assembly Akbaruddin Owaisi has claimed that the party has created assets worth more than Rs. 5,000 crore for the Muslim community.

Addressing the 58th Formation Day of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen at Darulsalaam here on Wednesday, Akbaruddin Owaisi said that the overall assets created by the MIM so far were worth more than Rs. 5,000 crore. He said that educational and other institutions set up by the MIM were spread across 23.02 lakh sft. The Darulsalaam Education Trust provides nearly 11,000 jobs, including 4,500 direct jobs. He said that the Trust spends nearly Rs. 11 crore per month only on salaries. He said that the Deccan Medical College has so far produced more than 3,000 doctors.

Akbaruddin Owaisi said that the MIM has always worked for the empowerment of Muslim community. He said that the MIM has been striving hard to get benefits for Muslims on par with Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. He said these benefits would ensure educational and economic development of the community. However, he said that the MIM would pressurise the TRS Government to implement the promise of giving 12% Muslim reservation.

Informing that 4,800 sq yards of land has already been acquired for Anis-ul-Ghurba, Akbaruddin Owaisi announced a personal contribution of Rs. 1 crore for the construction of new building for the orphanage. He said the remaining amount would be raised through Zakat and other donations. Further, he said efforts would be made during forthcoming budget session to get 600 acres of land belonging to Dargah Hazrat Hussain Shah Wali restored to the Wakf Board. He said during the recent meeting with Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, the MIM leaders have proposed one-time payment of financial assistance of Rs. 25,000 each to all small vendors. He said that the Chief Minister has assured to consider it seriously.

Akbaruddin Owaisi said that the MIM never joined any government as it believed only in empowerment of Muslim community. He said former MIM President late Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi rejected the post of Union Home Minister in VP Singh Government at the Centre. It was after Salar’s refusal that Mufti Mohammed Sayeed was made the Home Minister. Similarly, he said he had refused to accept the post of Deputy Chief Minister by KCR. He said MIM leaders could never become political slaves and would remain focused on community’s development.

The MIM leader expressed concern over drop in polling percentage in the recently concluded GHMC elections. Describing it as a sign of weakness of MIM, he said that the party has been fighting for the cause of Muslim community on the basis of votes that it gets from the community. He appealed to the community to vote in large numbers to strengthen the MIM and prevent its enemies from becoming stronger.

Earlier, Akbaruddin Owaisi hoisted the party flag at Darulsalaam. Charminar MLA Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri delivered the welcome address. MIM legislators, corporators and hundreds of workers attended the formation day celebrations. (INN)
