Miscreants burnt holy Quran in Himachal, Muslims took massive rally

SHIMLA: Unidentified miscreants burnt the religious literature at a mosque in Himachal’s Melayo village in Sirmour district.

The incident happened on the intervening night of December 3. When the masjid’s maulvi found the burnt pieces of religious literature, he immediately informed the local committee and informed the police.

As soon as the information was received, Majra police reached the spot and started investigating the matter.

Following the incident of tearing off and subsequent burning of religious book, thousands of Muslim, including women took to streets at Mishrwala in Paonta Sahib and Nahan in Sirmaur district to protest the failure of police to arrest the culprits responsible for burning of 40 religious books including holy Quran.

Police posse had been deployed as a precautionary measure to ensure law and order situation and no untoward incident was reported.

The Muslim community which demanded high level probe into the incidents and stern action against the culprits is not happy with the tardy pace of investigations.
