Mo and Rash dash off to avoid champagne spray, hailed

LONDON: A video of England’s cricket stars Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid made a quick dash at World Cup celebrations to avoid champagne spray went viral online.

Known as Mo and Rash in the locker room, the two cricketers were seen positioned at the outskirt of the group. As the sponsored champagne bottles being popped out, the duo made a quickly exit so as to avoid getting wet by the champagne.

Both are practising Muslims and followers of Islam, a religion which eschew the consumption or even touching alcohol.

The actions of both the cricketers caught the attention online and were praised for sticking to their beliefs.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Dublin-born skipper Eoin  Morgan was asked if England had enjoyed the famed luck of the Irish.

Morgan said: “We had Allah with us as well. I spoke to Adil (Rashid), he said Allah was definitely with us. I said we had the rub of the green (smiling).”

Earlier on Sunday, England became the World Cup champions for the first time in cricket history after defeating New Zealand in a pulsating final which ended in a nail-biting Super Over at Lord’s.
