Most wanted thief nabbed, booty recovered

Hyderabad: A fugitive inter-state criminal Jayesh Ravji Sejpal of Gujarat State, who was wanted in several offences in various metropolitan cities of different States for the last six years, was arrested by the city police and stolen diamond jewelry and gold ornaments were recovered.

According to City Police Commissioner, the Banjara Hills police received a complaint from an occupant of Room No 312 of Park Hyatt Hotel on March 7 early morning that an unidentified person intruded into his room and committed theft of diamond jewelry and gold ornaments. Soon the police registered a case and formed special teams to track down the accused. The police teams plunged into action and detected Jayesh Ravji Sejpal of Gujarat State was the culprit.

The CP said the accused had committed 30 crimes in the last six years. He was last arrested by the Agra Police in 2006 in connection with a theft case in five-star hotels and was later released on bail. The thief was later nabbed in Chandigarh, but he managed to escape from the police with his robbery skills. Jayesh’s last theft was at Park Hyatt hotel on Road No. 2, Jubilee Hills on March 5. He stole Rs 12 lakh worth gold ornaments from a city-based businessman’s wife by entering her room posing as a relative.

Apart from Park Hyatt theft, he has been booked under multiple cases of robbery. Jayesh was the key suspect in 2016 Marigold Hotel theft in SR Nagar, where he stole Rs 5 lakh worth gold. He was also booked under 2014 theft case, which took place at Mercure Hotel in Abids. He had stolen Rs 7 lakh worth gold ornaments from a jeweller Narayana Das Maru. Jayesh Ravji, a native of Gujarat, settled in Andheri, Mumbai. He was found guilty in theft cases, which were reported in cities like Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Vishakapatnam, Chennai, Chandigarh, Jalandhar and Bengaluru, the CP added. (NSS)
