MP: Minister allegedly arranges marriage ceremony of frogs to appease “rain god”

Chhattarpur: Frog wedding ceremony was organized in Chhattarpur, Madhya Pradesh. It was organized to appease the “rain god”.

According to the report published in Hindustan Times, this marriages ceremony was allegedly arranged by Madhya Pradesh Minister of State for Woman and Child Development, Lalita Yadav.

It is also reported that “Ashad Utsav” was organized by the minister and other local BJP leaders. In the programme, a priest performed the marriage of frogs. This ceremony took place in the presence of Yadav. Hundreds of people also gathered to watch the ceremony.

Talking about the ceremony, Temple priest Acharya Brijnandan said that it is an old tradition. He believes that this year, there will be good monsoon due to this ceremony.

However, the Congress heavily criticized the act and said that it will result in the promotion of superstition. Alok Chaturvedi, Congress leader alleged that it is an attempt to divert the attention of the people. He also alleged that Yadav is focusing on rituals instead of providing drinking water in the area.

Replying to the criticism, Yadav said it is not superstition rather it is a logical tradition. “We are trying to please the god”, Yadav added.

It may be mentioned that Chhattarpur is in Bundelkhand region. It is facing severe drought for the past two years. Below average rainfall is also affecting the agriculture.
