Bhopal: Two days after a communal clash broke out in MP’s Rajgadh district, several members of the Muslim community have been booked under sedition and promoting enmity on religious grounds by the police, reports said.
A petty brawl at a cultural progamme organized to mark the Republic day turned into a communal clash in Khujner town of Rajgadh district following which 16 members from both the communities including BJP corporator Kamal Yadav were booked under sections related to rioting, use of obscene language and criminal intimidation, among other charges, Indian express reported.
Members from both the communities filed complaints against each other while the Police have arrested six persons in connection with the clash.
The district administration had also imposed Section 144 in the town on Saturday prohibiting the gathering of three or more person in the region.
In one of the filed complaints, the majority Hindu community has accused the Muslim community of raising “anti-India and pro-Pakistani slogans”.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Bala Bachchan on Sunday told that no such evidence was found that supports the allegations of “anti-India slogans” had been raised in the clash.
On the other hand, BJP leaders in the region have accused the police of bias reaction against the majority community.
Former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who is scheduled to visit the town on Tuesday, alleged, “Some people attacked the organisers of an event after patriotic songs were played.’’
He also said some schoolchildren had been injured in the communal clash and that there was anger against the administration.
BJP vice-president Rameshwar Sharma has accused the home minister of protecting “anti-national” elements.
“It’s not an ordinary incident, it’s a case of sedition,’’ he said on Monday.
