Mumbra: Case booked against 2 MIM workers

Mumbra: A case has been booked against 2 Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen workers in Mumbra police station under ‘Atrocity Act’. According to Inquilab, they have been booked on the charges of offending a clerk of Mumbra Ward Committee of Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC).

The accused include president youth wing of MIM Mumbra Kalwa assembly constituency Saif Pathan and worker Lisan Ansari.

According to the complaint registered in the police station, a programme was organised by the local organisation ‘Kul Jamat (Mumbra Kausa)’ and religious scholars on Sunday, February 24 at Shimla Park to felicitate Municipal Commissioner Sanjiv Jaiswal and MLA Jitendra Awhad.

During the programme, Saif Pathan and Lisan Ansari allegedly used offensive language against clerk Amit Gadkari. On the basis of a complaint made by the clerk, a case was booked against the duo under Atrocity Act.

The Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 is an Act of the Parliament of India enacted to prevent atrocities against scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. The Act is popularly known as the SC/ST Act, POA, the Prevention of Atrocities Act, or simply the Atrocities Act.
