A Muslim mohalla in Muzaffarpur divide road on caste lines

PATNA: A Muslim-dominated village in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur split the road into two on caste lines.

According to India Today reports, the Muslim mohalla located at Damodarpuri Tola in Panapur Haveli panchayat in Muzaffarpur’s Kanti saw a casteist scuffle between the two sides within the community on November 18.

Sheikhs, considered upper caste, have had their domination on other half i.e; Ansaris, considered lower in the caste order among Muslims.

When a Sheikh-level pomp and show of wedding happened at Ansari’s side, the Sheikhs did not like it and soon a minor tiff turned into a free for all quarrel.

As a remedy, a wall on the road was constructed that separates Sheikhs and the mosque on Ansari’s side.

There is no history of animosity between the two communities however, after that wedding fight, both the sides had filed cases with the police.
