Mystery shrouds girl’s death

Kochi: Mystery shrouds the death of an 18-year-old girl, whose body was found in the backwaters near Ernakulam wharf last week.

According to the girl’s relatives, she died under mysterious circumstances and there was no possibility of her committing suicide.

Police said the girl, who went missing last Sunday, was found dead in the backwaters, the next day.

CCTV visuals recovered from a Church at Kaloor in the city showed the girl from Piravom coming out and reaching the main road after prayers last Sunday, police said.

The girl, pursuing her CA, was staying at a hostel in Ernakulam for her studies.

Several personalities, including Malayalam film actor Nivin Pauly, asked the authorities to “wake up”.

“..As the family cries for an investigation, let’s support their fight for justice… Our small voices might help and make a world of difference…wake up authorities, none of God’s children die in vain,” Pauly said in his Facebook post.

Soon after she went missing, her relatives had lodged a ‘missing case’ with police.

According to police, preliminary investigation has ruled out any foul play in her death.
