N M Farooq named as AP Legislative Council Chairman

Hyderabad: Sticking to his promise, TDP Supremo and Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N Chandrababu Naidu has named former minister N M D Farooq, as the chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council.

During Nandyal bye elections, AP CM had promised to Muslims to give AP Legislative Council Chairman’s post to a Muslim. Hence in a meeting of district party presidents in Amravati, Chandrababu Naidu made the announcement on Monday.

It must be noted that the tenure of the previous chairman A Chakrapani expired in May. Farooq was sworn in as MLC in Governor’s quota in the last week of July. He hails from Nandyal and was the former deputy speaker of the Assembly in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh.
