New Delhi: Congress National spokesman Nadeem Javed has been appointed as chairperson of All India Congress Committee’s Minority department by Congress President Rahul Gandhi. In a press note, Congress General Secretary Ashok Gehlot informed that Rahul Gandhi has assigned Nadeem Javeed the responsibility of National Congress Minority Department in place of Khurshid Ahmed Saiyed. Appointment of the 41-year-old Javed is being seen as part of Congress strategy to bring in young faces and infuse a new life into the party and steer it into the 2019 Lok Sabha elections under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi.

Earlier Nadeem Javed has served as national president of All Congress Committee students’ wing (NSUI) and general secretary of Youth Congress. He first won the elections from Jaunpur assembly seat on Congress ticket in 2012. He is the first Muslim youth to become chairman of national Congress minority department in such a young age.
