Navy war room leak: Retd Captain gets 7 years’ imprisonment

New Delhi: A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Wednesday sentenced Captain (retired) Salam Singh Rathore to seven years’ imprisonment in the 2005 Navy War Room leak case.

The court convicted Rathore under Section 3(1) C of the Official Secrets Act of 1923.

While passing the judgment in the case, the court told Rathore that the offence committed by him was not just against the society, but against the national security of India.

The court added that being a defence personnel, his primary job was to protect the unity, integrity and security of India, but he acted otherwise.

The 2005 Navy War Room leak case involves leaking of over 7,000 pages of defence information of sensitive nature from the naval war room and air defence headquarters, where serving officers allegedly passed on military secrets to unauthorised persons for financial gain.
