Nawaz Sharif’s wife struggling for life

London: Deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s wife is on a ventilator at a hospital in London. Sharif has ruled out returning to Pakistan for now to face corruption charges. Kulsoom Nawaz, 68, was admitted to hospital in London in August last year. According to doctors, she was suffering from throat cancer. On June 14, she suffered a cardiac arrest following which she was shifted to the hospital’s ICU and has been on the ventilator since then.

Nawaz Sharif asked reporters how can he think of going back to Pakistan under such circumstances, leaving behind his wife in such a critical condition?

Sharif and his daughter Maryam are facing corruption trial against them at an accountability court in Islamabad on corruption references filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) following the Supreme Court’s July 28, 2017 verdict in the Panama Papers scandal, disqualifying Sharif and directing the anti-graft watchdog to launch an inquiry.
